Kimberly Brenneman, Ph.D. is a program officer for education at the Heising-Simons Foundation in California, where her grantmaking focuses on early mathematics. Prior to joining the foundation, Dr. Brenneman was research faculty at Rutgers University’s National Institute for Early Education Research, where she was the principal investigator on multiple funded projects involving curricular and instructional practices to foster science, technology, engineering, and mathematics learning for young children in school and home settings. She has co-designed STEM professional development experiences with teachers, for teachers and takes a particular interest in supports for teachers of dual language learners. Dr. Brenneman is co-author of the books Preschool Pathways to Science (PrePS): Facilitating Scientific Ways of Thinking, Talking, Doing, and Understanding and Teaching STEM in the Preschool Classroom and of Connect4Learning, a comprehensive, interdisciplinary preschool curriculum. She has contributed to media resources that support preschool-aged math and science learners, including Sid the Science Kid and Curious George. Dr. Brenneman has served as an advisor to PBS’s Ready to Learn initiative and as a member of advisory boards for federally-funded projects to support science learning in formal and informal learning environments.
