Joint Activities
Building Structures Using Recyclables

In this Joint Activity, consistent with what children were doing in the classroom, parents and teachers came together to build replicas of meaningful structures that reflected important places in children’s communities.

As in other Joint Activities, parents took the lead and teachers supported them in doing so.

Parent Leaders and teachers from this community created replicas of the airport and nearby soccer fields, which are salient in this particular neighborhood in East Boston.

Parent Leaders and teachers from another community created a replica of the Great Wall of China and a model of a typical Chinatown apartment in downtown Boston.

Across both programs, structures that were salient in the community as well as those that reflected culture were built.
