Who We Are
Diane Babine
At the time of Phase 1, Diane Babine had been an early childhood educator at ABCD Head Start for more than 18 years. She participated in Phase 1 of the RISE project along with Tufts University for 1 year.  She also participated in Phase 2. Diane holds an associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Bunker Hill Community College.

“By joining the RISE project, I kind of knew that the activities in my classroom would change, but I didn’t expect to myself be changed from the experience of learning science, technology, and engineering too! My co-teacher and I used to do the same activities every day, but since joining the project we brought in more variety of science-related activities for the children. I have always been interested in science since young, and I see that the activities from RISE are “fun science,” not like the chemistry science and all that. I like it because it changed my way of teaching and my way of thinking.
And through the parent-teacher discussion meetings, I think some cultures believe that the teachers are superior— but we are not, we are just normal people like they are. In the beginning, a lot of the parents were quiet, but later we warmed up, joked with each other, and then we become friends and get to know each other differently.”
